Visit the château in the Sauternes wine region

Château Guiraud, a unique sense of freedom

Built on a soil of gravel, sand and clay, surrounded by forests in the heart of the Sauternes wine region and spanning a total area of 128 hectares: Château Guiraud’s unusual topography has always fostered a unique sense of freedom, right from the very start.

Acquired in 1766 by the Guiraud family, who were Protestant and republican merchants in a Catholic, pro-royalty stronghold, the château has always boasted a distinctive presence, with its classic black and gold label, its pioneering commitment to biodiversity and its predilection for sauvignon blanc grapes.

Having been awarded the Terres de Natures  label in 2022 and under the leadership of Sandrine Garbay, a modest woman who is renowned for her incredible expertise, Château Guiraud produces a refreshing and contemporary Sauternes with perfectly balanced sweetness. Sauternes by Guiraud, a pioneering signature in shades of white and gold.

The dedicated people behind our wines

At Château Guiraud, respect for people and the planet is fundamental: a reminder that the living world thrives on interaction and diversity.

Our skilled workers, led by Sandrine Garbay, work together to showcase the Guiraud brand, thereby enhancing the reputation of the entire Sauternes region.

Humanity, humility and collective intelligence: Château Guiraud’s strength lies in the people behind it.

Sustainable wine-growing and organic wines from Bordeaux

As a pioneering proponent of biodiversity since 1996 and the first Premier Grand Cru Classé to receive organic certification (2011), Château Guiraud has always been proud to declare its unfaltering commitment to the natural world.

Here, the energy of the living world has a powerful effect on the land, benefiting everything from the roots of the vines to their grapes.

With hedgerows to encourage the presence of wildlife, more than 630 species of insects, plant cover for agronomic purposes in the vineyard rows and a collection of 145 sémillon and sauvignon grape clones, our skilled workers harness the power of the living world for truly sustainable wine-growing.

The rhythms of the natural world have long set the pace at Château Guiraud.

The Guiraud signature: refreshingly balanced

In the heart of the Sauternes wine region, Château Guiraud’s style stands out. The mysterious terroir of sand, gravel and clay plays a key role in the unique nature of its wines, as do the high proportion of sauvignon blanc grapes (35%), the vineyard’s sustainable wine-growing methods and the expert work involved in harvesting and blending the vineyard’s grapes.

Combining a perfectly balanced sweetness with a surprisingly refreshing depth, Château Guiraud revels in its distinctive character, producing a resolutely contemporary Sauternes.

Passionate, pioneering and incredibly precise, Château Guiraud’s signature style takes sweet wines to a whole new level, exploring new possibilities.

A balanced approach offers endless potential.

Château Guiraud 1er Grand Cru Classé in 1855

Château Guiraud Premier Cru: made from a blend of 65% sémillon and 35% sauvignon blanc, vinified using indigenous yeasts and matured for 18 months in new French oak barrels, Château Guiraud Premier Cru is a byword for purity and balance.

A great wine made with the grey fungus Botrytis cinerea (known as noble rot), it boasts a floral freshness, exotic notes and intensely sweet flavours with a dense, well-balanced palate. Delicately aromatic.

Petit Guiraud

Petit Guiraud: the youngest Sauternes by Château Guiraud, vinified with the wine estate’s Grand Vin, turns the ordinary into something extraordinary: a forthright wine which is indulgently elegant and modern.

With its golden colour, the refreshingly full-bodied Petit Guiraud is simply irresistible.

A dry white wine made from a blend of equal parts of sauvignon and sémillon and aged on lees for 6 months, half in stainless steel vats and the other half in barrels used for the château’s Premier Cru dessert wine, G de Guiraud is a truly exciting wine.

The perfect starting point for those unfamiliar with Guiraud’s collection, this full-bodied yet lively wine is the ultimate indulgence.

Le Cercle Guiraud restaurant

Le Cercle Guiraud is the most recent Guiraud project (but certainly not the last!); this restaurant has just opened its doors and its terrace in the centre of the village of Sauternes and boasts breathtaking views of the château’s vineyards.

Under the guidance of Yoann Amado, a former member of Chef Eric Fréchon’s Michelin-starred brigade, the cuisine at Le Cercle Guiraud is unapologetically inspired by the Sauternes and South Gironde regions. Incredible ingredients from local producers inspire a distinctive and inviting culinary signature: taste is given pride of place and classic French cuisine is reinvented with pleasing enthusiasm.

The restaurant’s pastry chef Juliette Bonnard adds to the culinary experience with innovative desserts featuring seasonal fruit: gourmet delights in an explosion of colour!

When it comes to wine, Denis Verneau, the restaurant’s sommelier who holds the prestigious title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France, will help you to choose from a selection of sustainably produced French vintages.

Although there’s a focus on the Bordeaux region, home to some fine local appellations, including the great white wines of Sauternes, other French wine-growing regions provide the wine list with some magical additions which you won’t want to miss.

Boasting a refreshingly bold approach and offering a truly inviting culinary experience, a meal at Le Cercle Guiraud is the ultimate treat.
